Hey all!

Just a reminder, we are back on our normal schedule next Monday, January 30th.

If you have the itch to go dance this week, there are options!

As always, Monday Nights the Flying Saucers at Swan's Brewpub downtown (I'll be there, and a bunch of other regulars from around town), no cover, but a purchase of drinks and/or food is not a bad idea.

Wednesday night is Rhythm Room at the Base Lounge (https://www.facebook.com/events/282148931849118/). Lesson at 9pm and dance at 9:30, and costs $4 for students. They are teaching Lindy Hop this week

Thursday night at Swan's is some a blues band, expect some of us dancers to be there, once again, it is free, but support the venue, and get some food or drinks

Saturday Night is Nothin' But Swing at St. Johns Hall downtown, Lesson at 8:30, and dancing till 12:30ish! Cost is $5 for students. Come see us on the floor.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope that you all had a great break and are ready to get back to studying. This is just a quick update for everyone for the new year.

First things first, next week is club days (Wednesday January 11, and Thursday January 12), meaning we need people to sit at the table and get people signed up for the club. If you are interested in helping out, send us an email (uvicswing@gmail.com) and let us know when you are available. We will see if we can get you a shift, if you cannot sit at the table, come visit us and hang out for a little.

This leads to the next point, there is NO dance or lessons on Monday January 9. To make up for this, there is a live band this Saturday at the Nothin' But Swing dance (https://www.facebook.com/events/298684150169799/). Its a blast and I hope that you all can come out this Saturday ($10 for students).

Our first dance and lesson will be on January 16. Same as before, intermediate lesson at 5:30 and the beginner lesson starts at 6:30 in Vertigo. The social dance is from 7:30 to 8:30.

SNOWBALL Dance and Jedi Swing Competition

Hello all you Swing Dancers!

A reminder that the Swing Dance Club`s SNOWBALL Dance and Jedi Swing Competition will be happening later on today!!!

This is the last dance of the semester!

Beginner lesson is from 5:30-6:15pm. We will then have open dancing and the Jedi Swing Competition until 8:30pm! WOW: 2 hours of dancing at Vertigo!

And to steer us through the night is DJ DJ!

UVSS Swing Dance Club Fall Bake Sale!

UVSS Swing Dance Club Fall Bake Sale is on October 31! Come out and buy some tasty Hallowe'en treats!

We will be going from 8:30-4:30 in Clearihue Lobby at UVic and would love for you to drop by to try some of our tasty treats!

If you would like to bake some goodies for us please email uvicswing@gmail.com and let us know what you will be bringing. Be sure to mention everything which is in the baked good so that those with dietary restrictions can eat without fear!!!

Fall 2011 Dancing Schedule

Hello all ye Hep Katz and Kittenz!!!

A new semester is coming up and with it is MORE DANCING! Hurray! Clubs days are Wednesday September 14 and Thursday September 15 from 10-4 in the MPR. Come drop by and dance!

Special Events are yet to be determined, however, the dates for the MONDAY night dances will be as follows:
- Sept 19, 26
- Oct 3, 10, 17, 24 (none on Oct 31)
- Nov 7, 14, 21, 28
- Dec 5

As per the last following years, the schedule will be:
Intermediate lesson: 5:30-6:30pm
Beginner lesson: 6:30-7:30pm
Open Social Dance: 7:30-8:30pm

The intermediate lesson will require at least a semester of swing dancing experience (including East Coast Swing, Jive, Westcoast Swing and Lindy) and will be taught for the most part by two amazing dancers from the community: Dave Jarvis and Tina Lee.

The beginner lesson is fun for all. You need no experience nor partner. Just flat, comfortable shoes, a water bottle, willing to try something new, and some smiles.

As always, this club is run by volunteers and therefore it is FREE! Although we do appreciate donations once and a while so we can put on awesome events. If you want to help out this semester, come talk to or message any of us and we will get you hooked up.

The Layout:

Intermediate lesson 5:30-6:30pm

For those with swing dance experience! It is recommended that you have done at least one semester doing the beginner lesson, participated in Red Hot Swing's Swing 1 or have other PARTNER dancing experience. We will be covering 8-count lindy and charleston moves and variations there-upon! This is with Dave Jarvis and Tina Lee!!!

Beginner Lesson: 6:30-7:30pm

For those who have never done swing dance (or any other dancing for that matter), and those who are honing their skills! We will be teaching a variety of 6-count swing moves of awesome! This has a drop-in format, so if you miss any lessons that is OK! But fear not, there are new moves to be learned every week! This is with Spencer Reid and Liana Stammers!!!

Open Dance: 7:30-8:30pm

To practice and improve those skills and moves you learned in the lessons! Feel free to ask anyone to dance! Usually DJed by Spencer!!!

As usual, NO EXPERIENCE, NO PARTNER REQUIRED!!!
